Anthony Martial is in talks over a shock transfer after his recent fallout at AEK Athens.

Martial, 29, left Manchester United in 2024 after a nine-year spell at the club in which he scored 90 goals.

The Frenchman left Manchester for Greece as he joined the Super League side in September 2024, penning a three-year deal. But after just one season with the Greek outfit, Martial could be on the move again having only played once so far in 2025/26.

That has prompted rumours about his future, with Mexican side PUMAS said to be interested in signing the striker on a permanent deal. According to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo Martial has been targeted by the Liga MX club, and there is hope a deal can be agreed before their transfer deadline on Friday with 'negotiations' ongoing.

Marital's salary is reportedly the main obstacle to the move being agreed, with the former United man reportedly earning £2.5 million per season with AEK and still has two years left on his current deal in Greece.

The France international has made 24 appearances in total for AEK, scoring nine goals and providing two assists. However, he has not played a game for Marko Nikolic's side since late July, a UEFA Conference League clash with Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

What is next for Martial at this stage is unclear, but a move to Mexico would be his first stint outside Europe having previously turned out for Lyon, Monaco and Sevilla, the latter a loan stint from United.

That move to Spain came as his career at United wound down, eventually departing on a free transfer last year. "Manchester United will always be in my heart," he said on his departure.

"This club has left its mark on my career and offered me an incredible opportunity to play in front of you. "I'm leaving to take on new challenges, I'll always be a Red Devil and I'll continue to follow the club's results with passion.
