Chelsea are back in Premier League action this weekend as Enzo Maresca’s side return from the international break
Chelsea face an away trip to Brentford on Saturday night as they look to keep their momentum going. The London club have seven points on the board from their first three Premier League fixtures of the new season. They are yet to lose in this campaign under Enzo Maresca and are 2nd in the table behind Liverpool.
The Blues beat Fulham 2-0 at home last time out before the international break. Striker Joao Pedro and midfielder Enzo Fernandez got their goals against the Whites. Maresca’s men will be in confident mood as they go in search of another three points this weekend against the Bees.
Chelsea injury update regarding Cole Palmer
Chelsea have left Cole Palmer out of their last two matches against West Ham and Fulham. The ex-Manchester City hasn’t featured in England’s recent outings either. He has been sidelined with a groin injury which hasn’t been ideal.
In this latest update regarding his condition ahead of their clash against Brentford, The Telegraph reporter Matt Law has said on the London is Blue Podcast this week: “I was told not too long ago not to be too worried about Cole. Cole is very much a management issue; being careful and sensible with him. I’d hope that he’s back after the international break & there’s nothing to worry about there.”
The Blues aren’t taking any risks with Palmer and will only play him against the Bees if he is fully fit. They can’t afford to rush him back in and avoid making anything worse. Therefore, they will continue to keep tabs on him over the next couple of days.
Will Cole Palmer be fit for Chelsea against Brentford?
Chelsea will make checks on Palmer ahead of their game against Brentford. If he isn’t available, they will have to make do without him. They have still managed to beat West Ham and Fulham with him in the treatment room so will be in good spirits regardless.
Palmer, 23, moved down to London back in 2023 and hasn’t looked back since. He rose up through the academy ranks at City and was a regular for his boyhood club at various different youth levels before breaking into the first-team at the Etihad Stadium. His career has properly taken off since joining the Blues though and he has scored 43 goals in 98 games in all competitions.
After securing his switch to Chelsea two years ago, he said at the time: "It happened fast, to be fair. I spoke to someone at Chelsea and I was speaking to my dad but I really didn't know what to do. I was just thinking about it for a couple of days, near enough every minute of the day. I just wanted regular game time."
He added: “It was a big move for me. I've never been out of Manchester. Not even been on loan. To be there on my own was a big thing. When I first went there it was difficult. Now that I've settled in more I'm enjoying it."
