Referee Consultant Todd Warnick examines the officiating in the EuroBasket 2025 quarterfinal between Slovenia and Germany, explaining why the Los Angeles Lakers star Luka Doncic should have been ejected from the game.
Slovenia NBA star Luka Doncic and his entire team were furious at the officiating, following last night's quarterfinal loss to Germany.
Big man Alen Omic came to Luka's defense after the game.
"Our best player in EuroBasket is not protected the way he needs to be. He got three fouls in 10–15 minutes of the game. What is this? He's the best player of the tournament. Everybody comes to watch him."
And veteran Slovenian Euroleague sharpshooter Klemen Prepelic also chimed in: "I'm sick of saying this every summer. It's keeping happening. Not only to us, but to many teams. It's getting ridiculous."
Doncic also had plenty to say after the game.
"I got my first technical foul just two minutes into the game when I shouted, 'Come on.' I don't know what the referees were thinking. Four fouls at the start of the third quarter—something like that has never happened to me in my life," he said.
BasketNews referee consultant Todd Warnick examines Luka and the Slovenian's complaints, including Doncic's early technical foul, whether he should have received 4 early fouls in the 3rd quarter, and other refereeing inconsistencies that may have impacted the final outcome.
If a poll were taken on which team complained the most to the referees at EuroBasket 2025, Luka and the Slovenians would undoubtedly win hands down.
But did that justify a technical foul on Doncic (after two missed fouls on him) just 2:18 into the game?
