Claim coach has departed Brentford and returned to former club – Bees didn’t give him what he wanted

Brentford assistant manager Martin Drury has left the club and returned to Valencia, after the Bees didn’t give him the role he expected.

That’s [at least according to Cadena SER](https://cadenaser.com/comunitat-valenciana/2025/09/11/la-exigencia-y-el-hambre-de-corberan-tambien-en-su-staff-radio-valencia/), and journalist Fran Guaita, who reports that the coach has been welcomed back at the Spanish club with welcome arms.

He covers Valencia today in a column looking at manager Carlos Corberán and his ‘hunger’, explaining that has also been passed on to his staff at the Mestalla.

He explains that Corberán showed his passion for the Spanish club early on, living in a hotel in Paterna for several weeks so that he could spend as many hours as possible in the club’s Sports City.

That passion has passed over to his staff, which is where Drury comes into the picture. He left for Brentford this summer, joining as assistant coach in July having previously been at Valencia as an individual trainer from January. He was previously at West Brom with Carlos Corberán as well.

Guaita reports that he was replaced by Mario Gibanel at Valencia but ‘has returned to Valencia’ after two months away from the club. According to him, ‘he went to Brentford expecting a role he hasn’t had’.

He’s been warmly welcomed back at Valencia, with the journalist adding that the squad have welcomed him with open arms as he’s highly valued among the group. That announcement is one to keep an eye on now that the transfer window is done.
