David Hopkinson issues exciting message to Newcastle United fans ahead of first game of new era

Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson has sent a new message to supporters ahead of a new era for the club.

Indeed, the post-Alexander Isak era begins for Newcastle United when they host Wolves in the Premier League on Saturday.

Now, Toon fans have new forwards on which to focus. Eddie Howe could give debuts to both Yoane Wissa and club-record signing Nick Woltemade, who will no doubt be desperate to make an impact as quickly as possible on Tyneside.

The international break also brought a change behind the scenes, too. After radio silence on appointments at executive level for what felt like an age, Newcastle appointed Hopkinson as their new CEO.

He replaces Darren Eales, who sadly had to step down due to health reasons.

It’s the start of something for Newcastle after a summer transfer window in which it sometimes felt the good times were coming to an end under owners PIF, given the toxicity of the Isak transfer saga and all that came with it.

David Hopkinson says Newcastle United can still get better

It was a bruising summer transfer window for the club. For the first time since the takeover in 2021, the Newcastle United owners were starting to come under question.

There were doubts about PIF’s ambition at Newcastle, given the lack of updates in regard to a new stadium and a new training ground.

Elsewhere, Newcastle missed out on a number of key transfer targets all while their star man in Isak was pushing to leave.

Still, the club ended the window in healthy fashion. Newcastle made six major signings in the summer of 2025, strengthening their squad while making a significant amount of money by selling players.

Hopkinson feels as if there are exciting times to come at the club as a result.

In an open letter to supporters, Hopkinson wrote: “To all Newcastle United fans,

“As I settle into my new role, I wanted to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thanks for the warm welcome I have received.

“Since arriving last week, I have had so many conversations with people inside and outside the club. I’ve gained invaluable insights, and I’m looking forward to connecting and engaging with more of you in the weeks and months to come.

“I’m also looking forward to getting out into the community in the coming weeks to meet more of you and understand what makes this region so special.

“My first impression is this is one united family, on and off the pitch. It is the people who make this football club so special and it is a privilege for me and my family to now be a part of it.

“I’m also truly excited about the future that lies ahead of us. My aim is to build on the tremendous work that preceded me with a renewed sense of alignment for everyone, helping us to grow and win together.

“While I have seen, heard and felt your pride and passion at close hand in recent days, I strongly suspect it will be nothing compared to what I will experience at St. James’ Park in the coming days.

“I can’t wait to be with you for my first game as CEO on Saturday and to be alongside you for the phenomenal journey ahead of us. The best is yet to come.

“David.”

How PIF are feeling about Newcastle United now

PIF remain ambitious at Newcastle, as proven by their outlay in the transfer market.

While it would be foolish to forget all that happened during the summer just because there are some new signings at long last, they deserve a decent amount of credit.

Newcastle are proud of their transfer business and for good reason. They have a much deeper squad now and can move on without the Isak distraction.

With Howe in charge, there’s every reason to think Newcastle can still be successful going forward.

It’s going to be fascinating to see how this new era develops.
