Trabzonspor’s loan deal with Manchester United for Andre Onana is a “major transfer success” for the Turkish club.
That’s according to journalist Bülent Timurlenk, [via Sports Digitale](https://x.com/SportsDigitale/status/1966071548672139712), who believes Trabzonspor have pulled off something of a transfer coup.
Onana is expected in Trabzon today for a medical and to complete a loan deal with the Super Lig side until the end of the season. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been pictured catching his flight to Trabzon Airport with his family today.
He is no longer a part of Manchester United’s plans after a ropey two years at the club following his €50.2m move from Inter Milan in July 2023.
United have now signed Senne Lammens as his long-term replacement, while Altay Bayındır has started the season as first choice under Ruben Amorim.
They had hoped to move Onana on before the summer transfer window closed but have now agreed a deal to send the goalkeeper out on loan to Türkiye, with their window closing on Friday.
He’ll replace Uğurcan Çakır at Trabzonspor, whose joined Galatasaray for €27.5m, leaving a hole in the Turkish side’s goalkeeping department that needs to be filled.
Timurlenk is impressed by the business and believes Onana could get back on track after his troubles in England.
“I consider Trabzonspor’s acquisition of Onana, after selling Uğurcan for over €30m, a major transfer success. Onana could turn a completely new page here; it’s a significant opportunity for him,” he said.
