Ange Postecoglou makes 'not going to love me' admission as he sets Nottingham Forest challenge

New head coach Ange Postecoglou is determined to achieve something special at Nottingham Forest, but he knows he will have to win over the fans first.

The 60-year-old replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the City Ground hot seat on Tuesday. He heads to Arsenal on Saturday (12.30pm kick-off) for his first game in charge.

A manager who has won trophies throughout his career, former Tottenham Hotspur boss Postecoglou is eager to secure silverware with the Reds. He inherits a great squad and has his mind set on building on the platform established by his predecessors.

"I've said already, I want to win trophies,” Postecoglou said in his first press conference. “That's what I've done my whole career and it's what I want to do here. Every club wants to be successful, but since the president (Evangelos Marinakis) took over this club those ambitions are backed up with actions. Perfect conditions for me.

“The sense of unity has always been here. My first year at Spurs, Coops (Steve Cooper) was still the manager here but they were going through a tough time but the supporters were still right behind him and the team

“You know how close this club is to the community. If you can harness that, then you can create something special.

“That isn't going to happen overnight; they (the fans) are not going to love me from the first day. That's something I’ve got to earn - their trust and respect.

“They'll get behind us, for sure, because they always do. Longer term, I'm going to have to earn people's respect and trust, as I have everywhere else I've been. It's one of those unique football clubs that if you get that sort of momentum, great things can happen.

“For the most part, what you see is what you get with me. I'm just very passionate about what I do.

“I love creating things that are lasting. Every club I've been to, I'd like to think I'd be welcome back because I've left a mark. That’s what I want to do here.

“All of that takes time. The one thing the fans will know is that if I set my mind to do something, I'll see it through. Hopefully I can bring some special times to this club. Hopefully they (the fans) will get behind the team, as they always do and they will be excited about the possibilities of what we can achieve.”
