Cowboys get brutal injury news on player who quietly dominated in Week 1

The Dallas Cowboys shocked the NFL after putting up a heck of a fight against the Philadelphia Eagles, days after the team traded away superstar Micah Parsons. Given how well they played, they had to feel good entering their second game of the season, as they take on a New York Giants team that looks as bad as they've ever been.

However, their defense is going to be dealing with a significant absence heading into the weekend.

ESPN's Todd Archer reports that Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland could be out for the next couple of weeks due to a right foot injury suffered in practice on Monday.

Cowboys could be without CB DaRon Bland for a couple of weeks due to right foot injury

This is not great news for the Cowboys, as he's backed up why he was deserving of the contract extension before the start of the season. Bland, seeking a new contract, agreed to terms with the Cowboys on a four-year, $90 million contract, making him the eighth highest-paid cornerback in the NFL currently.

In Week 1, Bland recorded two tackles, one quarterback hurry, and one pressure in 62 snaps played. Bland was targeted twice by Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, and they were to running back Saquon Barkley. Bland did allow two receptions for 11 yards, per Pro Football Focus, so not a lot of damage was done.

Luckily for the Cowboys, the schedule is favorable for at least the next two weeks. They face the Giants, who have an anemic offense and a porous offensive line, so it should be easy for the Cowboys to pick up a win. The following game, the Cowboys face the Chicago Bears, who gave up a 17-6 lead and lost to the Minnesota Vikings this past Monday. Bears quarterback Caleb Williams looked uncomfortable and lost in his first official game in head coach Ben Johnson's offense, so that could be a favorable matchup for the Cowboys.

We'll see how long it takes for Bland to return to the lineup. But as of now, he is firmly out for Sunday's home opener against the Giants.
