49ers QB Brock Purdy expected to miss multiple weeks, including game vs. Cardinals

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to be without starting quarterback Brock Purdy for their Week 3 game against the Arizona Cardinals.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Purdy is expected to miss 2-5 weeks due to turf toe.

The report comes after 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters on Wednesday that Purdy is a “long shot” to play on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints and could miss multiple weeks.

San Francisco’s backup quarterback is former New England Patriots starters Mac Jones.

Purdy missed practice with a toe/shoulder injury designation on Wednesday, and it is the turf toe issue that would keep him out of games. The turf toe injury happened when Purdy scrambled during San Francisco’s Week 1 win over Seattle. He finished the game, but Shanahan said the pain is halfway between the side and the bottom of his toe.

Purdy went 26-for-35 with 277 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions on Sunday.

The 49ers will be short-handed against the Saints and Cardinals with star tight end George Kittle landing on injured reserve with a hamstring injury that will keep him out for at least four weeks.

Purdy has made four starts against his hometown Cardinals and is 3-1. Arizona defeated Purdy and the 49ers last season, 24-23.

This week, the Cardinals are preparing for their home opener against the Carolina Panthers.
