**WINFIELD, W.Va.** — The four misdemeanor charges against former Marshall University and NFL veteran Chris Massey have been dropped.
In August, a criminal complaint stated Massey was charged with battery, disorderly conduct, trespassing and obstruction after an alleged altercation with Putnam County Deputy Seth Lewis, who also served as the coach for Massey’s son at Winfield Middle School.
According to a new filing, the state will be dismissing all four charges against Massey. As part of a legal agreement, Massey has agreed to not pursue charges against Lewis and will not file a civil complaint against him or the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.
MetroNews reached out to Massey’s attorney, Tim DiPiero when Massey was originally charged. DiPiero maintained that Massey was not the cause of the incident and was never the aggressor.
Massey, the East Bank High School graduate, was inducted into the Marshall Sports Hall of Fame in 2015. He played a decade in the NFL, with nine seasons coming with the St. Louis Rams.
