Grady Jarrett is dealing with a worrying knee injury ahead of the Bears' Week 2 action

The Chicago Bears‘ 2025 campaign did not get off to the start the team was hoping for. While they controlled the action for much of their Week 1 clash with the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football, a late rally from the Vikings resulted in the Bears suffering an ugly 27-24 loss.

Not only did Chicago lose, but they have some injury concerns to deal with as it gears up for their Week 2 clash with the Detroit Lions. Chief among them is the status of veteran defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, who received a worrying update regarding a knee injury he is dealing with ahead of the team’s second game of the season.

Grady Jarrett Didn’t Practice for Bears on Wednesday

Jarrett broke into the league as a fifth-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons in the 2015 NFL Draft, and after cracking the team’s roster as a rookie, he ended up earning a starting job in 2016. Jarrett would be an anchor on the Falcons’ defensive line for 10 seasons, earning a pair of Pro Bowl selections and a spot on the All-Pro Second Team in 2019.

Despite starting all 17 games for Atlanta last season, the team opted to release Jarrett last offseason. Chicago pounced quickly, signing Jarrett to a three-year, $42.5 million contract in free agency. After earning a reputation for being stout against both the run and pass, the Bears have high hopes for Jarrett, even as he enters his age-32 season.

In his debut with the Bears, Jarrett racked up three tackles, but he picked up a knee injury along the way that has quickly become a cause for concern. While the team did not practice on Wednesday, Jarrett was listed as not having participated in the Bears’ estimated practice report, which has suddenly thrown his status for Week 2 in doubt, with Chicago working on a short week.

“Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett has a knee injury and would have missed practice if one had been held,” Gene Chamberlain wrote for Bears on SI. “They had a walk-through instead and projected their injury status if they had a practice per league rules.”

Jarrett previously tore his ACL in 2023, so seeing him miss time with a knee injury is obviously going to be a cause for concern. It is worth noting that the Bears only did a walkthrough on Wednesday, so it’s not as if Jarrett missed an actual practice. He will have two shots to participate in the team’s actual practices on Thursday and Friday, and those will provide a better idea of whether or not he will be able to suit up.

Chicago missed out on a great opportunity to hand Minnesota a crushing season-opening loss. Now, it will head into Week 2 still in search of its first win, and picking up that victory is going to be easier said than done against a high-powered Lions team that is also looking to win their first game of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, and Jarrett’s injury status will be one of the top storylines to monitor over the next few days.
