Ange Postecoglou didn’t take long to remind English football of his ability to win, and Celtic got a mention right away.
At his first press conference as Nottingham Forest boss, the Australian pushed back when it was suggested winning a trophy in his first season might be too much. As he’s done before, he looked to the past and pointed straight to his first season success at Parkhead.
His comments came as Forest officially introduced him to the press after his recent appointment. The club have spoken about their aim to climb the Premier League table and challenge higher up, and Postecoglou made it just as clear he’s aiming to bring success. When asked if he could lift silverware in year one, he didn’t hesitate, and he certainly didn’t shy away.
He brought up his time at Celtic, where he rebuilt the side and won both the league and the League Cup in his first year. That 2021/22 season was full of pressure and big changes, a situation not far off what he’s walking into now at the City Ground.

It served as a strong message to anyone doubting whether he’s up to the task. Postecoglou has been here before, with pressure, high expectations, and little time. What he did at Celtic wasn’t just a one-off, it’s now the level he expects from himself in every job he takes.
The mention of Celtic wasn’t casual. It showed how much that time still shapes Postecoglou’s belief in what he can do. At Parkhead, he didn’t just win. He gave the team direction, brought in a new way of playing and handled the pressure that came with the job. That experience is still with him now.
Forest are a big name with a strong past, but they haven’t seen much success in recent years. Postecoglou made his stance clear. He’s not come to the Premier League just to steady the ship. He wants to win, just like he did from the start in Glasgow.

Celtic fans will no doubt have kept an eye on his first press appearance at Forest. Many still rate him highly for how he led the club and set high standards during his time at Lennoxtown. What he did in Glasgow wasn’t just a good spell. It’s still the example he uses.
And that’s what matters to Postecoglou. He didn’t turn up in Nottingham with bold promises. Instead, he pointed to what he’s already achieved and made it clear that he plans to do it again.
