Manchester United star Leny Yoro has all the traits to become one of the best centre-backs in the world.
The Frenchman has already caught the eye of former United defender Phil Jones.
Jones said via ManUtd.com: “I like the characteristics as a player, as a centre-back, especially on the right side of a back three.
“I think he’s got the pace and the athleticism, which I think is paramount for a centre-half, these days, in the Premier League.
“Technically, he’s very good on the ball. In the build-up, he’s very good and very reliable.
“He reads the game really well. He’s strong in both boxes.
“So, yeah, he is going to be an important player for Manchester United for many years to come.”
Man United signed Yoro from LOSC Lille in the summer of 2024 for an initial fee of £52 million.
Real Madrid were very interested in securing his services, but Yoro chose to join the Old Trafford club instead.
Fantastic start to the 2025-26 season
United may have stuttered with just one win from four Premier League games, but Yoro has been a shining light in defence.
In three league outings, he has already made five interceptions and won 14 duels.
Head coach Ruben Amorim demands ball-playing centre-backs who dominate physically and progress play, and Yoro ticks every box.
The 19-year-old is a generational talent and has shown great work ethic at United.
After realising he needed to bulk up, he worked tirelessly over the summer, returning noticeably stronger and sharper for pre-season.
Yoro is a throwback defender in some respects but also possesses the skill set needed in a modern centre-back.
He is a front-foot defender who is proactive and does not shy away from stepping out early to neutralise threats from attackers.
He has also won over the fans through his perfectly timed last-gasp tackles.
If nurtured properly and kept focused, Yoro could be the rock on which United’s backline is built for the next decade.
