Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers is being targeted by Premier League clubs after an impressive start to life at the club, and he might be considering a departure due to the lack of ambition being shown by the club.
During the summer market, Villa were relatively quiet until the final days of the window. Eventually, the Midlands club brought in Harvey Elliott, Jadon Sancho, and Victor Lindelof, but they might not be signings that will inspire the supporters. All three struggled for regular minutes at rivals clubs last season, and it screams on desperation from Villa after failing to get other targets over the line.
Importantly, Villa did keep hold of all of their key stars, including the likes of Rogers and Ollie Watkins. The lack of ambition in the market might have not only been a disappointment for supporters, but the players could be thinking that they should be looking for moves elsewhere.
Aston Villa Star Morgan Rogers Targeted by Premier League Clubs
Morgan Rogers in action for Aston Villa
Alongside other Premier League clubs, Liverpool are one of those who had a look at Aston Villa star Rogers during the summer transfer window, according to reports. The Villans managed to keep hold of Rogers beyond the deadline, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he was considering a departure in the future.
The likes of Lindelof, Elliott, and Sancho could have a positive impact at Villa Park, but it's always a worry when clubs do the bulk of their business on deadline day. All three of their deadline day additions were playing in the Premier League last season, for Liverpool and Manchester United, but they were far from guaranteed starters at their respective sides.
Villa already took a step back in the previous campaign, going from Champions League qualification to the Europa League. The lack of ambition shown in the transfer market might be a major concern for players like Rogers, who are developing and hoping to take their next step in the game, and with Premier League clubs circling, he might be tempted by a departure.
Rogers, described as 'unplayable' by Chris Sutton, is now starting to prove himself on the international stage, providing an assist for England earlier in the week, and the interest in him is only likely to step up if he continues his fine form from last season.
