Week 3 of the college football season brings the return game in the home-and-home series between the No. 16 Texas A&M Aggies and the No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
In last year’s matchup in College Station, the Fighting Irish pulled out a 23-13 win by leaning on their ground attack, as they did all season. They piled up 198 rushing yards, with quarterback Riley Leonard — now with the Indianapolis Colts — throwing for 158 yards and adding 12 carries for 63 more yards. Running back Jeremiyah Love chipped in 14 carries for 91 yards and a touchdown.
As for A&M, that was one of the final starts Conner Weigman made under center before now-starting quarterback Marcel Reed took over. Weigman went just 12-of-30 for 100 yards and two interceptions.
Ahead of Saturday’s game, ESPN’s Rece Davis and Pete Thamel previewed the week’s biggest matchups on the “College GameDay Podcast.” The Texas A&M-Notre Dame game was one of them, and each gave his prediction. While Davis went with the Fighting Irish, Thamel picked the underdog Aggies.
“I’m going to take ‘Gig ’em’ here,” Thamel said. “It was a coin flip game last year, trench game, low scoring. I think Marcel Reed’s experience will lead to him having a breakout signature victory.”

According to ESPN BET, Notre Dame is a 6.5-point home favorite despite sitting at 0-1. Notre Dame opened the season with a 27-24 Week 1 loss to the Miami Hurricanes and had Week 2 off. Meanwhile, Texas A&M is 2-0 with a 42-24 win over the UTSA Roadrunners and a 44-22 win over the Utah State Aggies.
This will mark Fighting Irish quarterback CJ Carr’s second career start after throwing for 221 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the opener. The redshirt freshman is a former four-star recruit (247Sports) from the class of 2024.
Kickoff between Texas A&M and Notre Dame is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET Saturday on NBC.
