Craig Breslow has been a busy man ever since he became the chief baseball officer for the Boston Red Sox in October of 2023. And his schedule doesn’t appear to be getting any lighter, with another crucial offseason coming up for Boston in only a few months. It’s not surprising, then, to hear that Breslow might be hiring someone to help him with managing the Red Sox roster.
According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, Breslow is planning to hire a general manager for the Red Sox after the 2025 season.
“Craig Breslow will prioritize finding a GM early this coming offseason, Bradford reported on Thursday. “Has gone without one in his first two seasons.”
Breslow, 45, has overseen all baseball operations for the Red Sox since taking over for Chaim Bloom two falls ago. With the right GM in place, perhaps Breslow’s workload will become easier, and he’ll be able to focus on a more specific set of tasks within Boston’s brass.

It’ll be fascinating to see who Breslow ends up hiring for the role. Breslow has connections all over Major League Baseball beyond the Red Sox, most notably with the Chicago Cubs, for whom Breslow worked as Director of Strategic Initiatives (2019), Director of Pitching (2020-22) and Assistant GM/SVP of Pitching (2023 before joining Boston.
His 12-season MLB career also saw Breslow pitch for the San Diego Padres, Red Sox, Cleveland Indians, Minnesota Twins, Oakland Athletics, Arizona Diamondbacks and Miami Marlins.

Who will Breslow anoint as Boston’s next GM, and what will be the most important criteria for the position? Perhaps we will all know in due time.
