Manchester City attacker Omar Marmoush suffered a knee injury whilst away on international duty.
Furthermore, he has a tough derby match against Manchester United to focus on as Manchester City will welcome their rivals to the Etihad Stadium, after a start to the season where both teams won just one game out of their opening three matches, in poor starts for both Guardiola and Amorim.
Forward Omar Marmoush had to be taken out of a game during his time with the Egypt national team in the international break, as he suffered a knee injury. It made him a doubt for the clash against United, and City have now issued an update on the attacker.
Marmoush set to ‘begin rehabilitation’
The knee injury that Marmoush suffered didn’t initially look good, and a return for the Man United game seemed unlikely, and so it has proven to be. Marmoush won’t be available for the game on Sunday, and he could miss a significant amount of time, which is a huge blow for Pep Guardiola.
Man City issued an update on the attacker in a club statement. It reads: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Omar Marmoush has sustained a knee injury whilst on international duty with Egypt.
“Initial results on a scan performed in Egypt indicate he will not be available for the Manchester derby on Sunday, and he will now return to Manchester for more assessment and to begin his rehabilitation.”
He is currently being assessed, but there is no indication just yet as to how long Marmoush will be out. Guardiola could be looking at a significant period, which could make his attacking options fairly thin moving forward.
Foden could replace Marmoush on Sunday
For all that is concerning about Man City’s current injury woes, it does seem that star attacker Phil Foden will likely return against Man United on Sunday for his first game of the season.
Foden has been dealing with an ankle injury, and he is currently being assessed ahead of Sunday. It does seem as though the English forward will be in line to feature against the Red Devils, and he could replace Marmoush and cover for the Egypt international.
Marmoush played on the left wing in City’s last game against Brighton, which was a 2-1 defeat, a position that Foden is perfectly familiar with, and so the England international could be the one to make a difference and help Erling Haaland with more chances to score on Sunday afternoon.
Furthermore, Foden’s return will help to fill the void left by the injury to Rayan Cherki, who had begun to show a lot of promise in a City shirt. He is set to be out until early November due to a hamstring injury, which is another big blow for Guardiola.
