The NFL is handing down its final actions for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson following him shoving a Buffalo Bills fan.

The Buffalo Bills pulled off a last-minute win to kick off their 2025-26 season on Sunday, September 7, with an intense game against the Baltimore Ravens. It was a high-stakes game, and tensions were high, especially with having two of the best quarterbacks in the league, Bills quarterback Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson of the Ravens, up against each other. In the end, the Bills pulled off a thrilling 41-40 win over the Ravens.

During the game, there was an unfortunate incident where a Buffalo Bills fan shoved Ravens wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, and then that fan got shoved by Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson, who was sticking up for his teammate.

Earlier in the week, the NFL swiftly announced that they would be banning that fan from all NFL events, including, of course, Bills games. But, it doesn’t stop there. Now, the NFL has revealed its punishment for Jackson.

NFL Hands Down Lamar Jackson Punishment After Buffalo Bills Fan Incident

Earlier in the week, on Monday, September 8, Adam Schefter of ESPN sent out a message on X saying that the NFL has made their final decision on the exchange. “The fan who shoved Ravens WR DeAndre Hopkins, and then got shoved by QB Lamar Jackson, has been ‘indefinitely banned from Bills and NFL stadiums,’ per a team official,” he stated on X. “The fan had been ejected after the shove Sunday night.”

So, that was their punishment to the Bills fan who put his hands on a player. But, what’s the NFL punishment for Jackson? Well, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN and NFL official Brian McCarthy, Jackson won’t be fined or suspended.

As Schefter shared on X on Thursday, September 11, “While the league continues to review QB Lamar Jackson’s interaction with a Bills fan Sunday night, the Ravens say they are handling the matter internally.”

Schefter adds that a Ravens official stated, “Our player’s safety is of the utmost importance. We have spoken to Lamar, who understands the impact of the situation, about the incident. While we will keep internal matters private, we have implemented additional security protocols – both at home and on the road – to better protect our players and handle negative fan interactions moving forward.”

In a separate post on X, Schefter added that “the NFL will not fine Lamar Jackson for his interaction Sunday night with a Bills fan.” He also said that NFL official Brian McCarthy stated, “The matter has been addressed by the club and there is no further action from the league.”

So, the NFL won’t fine Jackson, and Jackson won’t miss any play time due to the incident.

Lamar Jackson Talks Buffalo Bills Fan Exchange

After the game, Jackson was asked about that fan exchange. He said that he wouldn’t obtain from those actions in the future and that for the moment, he forgot where he was.

“He slapped me, he talking, so I just forgot where I was for a little bit,” Jackson said, in greater context, as reported by ESPN’s SportsCenter. “You gotta think in those situations. We got security out there. Let security handle it. I let my emotions get the best of me. Hopefully it don’t happen again. I’ll learn from that.”
