Dallas Mavericks continue to map future with another contract extension

The Dallas Mavericks signed forward PJ Washington to a four-year, $88 million contract extension on Thursday.

The extension will keep Washington in Dallas until the 2029 season. He joins Kyrie Irving and Daniel Gafford in signing multiyear deals with the Mavs this offseason.

The trio will join a new look Mavs team. Dallas enters a season without Luka Doncic for the first time since 2017-18 after his shocking trade, but the Mavs will have No. 1 overall pick Cooper Flagg to help lead the franchise into a new era.

Washington’s signing further shores up the type of team that general manager Nico Harrison has said he wanted to build, one focused on defense, effort and tenacity.

Last season, Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals per game in his second season with the Mavs since being dealt by the Charlotte Hornets at the 2024 trade deadline.
