Spurs boss Frank pushed to sign West Ham star over summer

Tottenham Hotspur travel to the London stadium to face fierce rivals West Ham United on Saturday.

The Lilywhites won their first two matches of the new Premier League season, including an impressive 2-0 victory against Manchester City, but a 1-0 loss at the hands of Bournemouth last time out ended their run.

Thomas Frank will be relatively pleased with his side’s start to the campaign, and the Dane will want to see Spurs defeat the Hammers in East London on Saturday.

Mohammed Kudus could face his old club on Saturday having joined Tottenham from West Ham over the summer, and it has now emerged that Frank wanted to sign a second player from Spurs’ London rivals.

According to TEAMtalk, Frank was keen for Tottenham to sign midfielder Lucas Paqueta from the Hammers over the summer.

The report claims that the ex-Brentford boss pushed for Spurs to sign the Brazilian, who he had identified as the perfect candidate to bolster his midfield options.

Paqueta, 38, joined West Ham from French side Lyon in 2022 and has since made 124 appearances for the London side across all competitions, spring 21 goals and registering 14 assists.

It is claimed that Spurs seriously considered a move for the midfielder over the summer, although it is unclear whether or not the Hammers would have entertained the idea of selling such an important player to such a fierce rival.

Paqueta is contracted to West Ham until the end of the 2026/27 season, and the Brazil international is set to feature for West Ham against Spurs on Saturday.

His versatility would have appealed to Frank, with the ex-Lyon man able to play in a number of roles including as an attacking midfielder, winger, or even as a striker.
