Arsenal now want to hand star five-year deal as several major clubs look to sign him

Arsenal have offered William Saliba a new five-year deal with several major clubs looking to lure him away from the Emirates Stadium club, according to French outlet Foot Mercato.

The Gunners centre-back is out of contract in 2027 and talks over a contract extension have been ongoing for a while.

Real Madrid are one of the clubs hoping to sign Saliba next summer or in 2027 as a free signing, but other bigwigs will be monitoring the situation.

Signing such a player for free will appeal to any club, but Arsenal are hoping to avoid losing one of their best players.

It is believed talks are progressing between both parties, with Bukayo Saka also expected to sign a new deal as he is also out of contract in 2027.

The North Londoners are ready to make the Englishman the highest earner at the club, and Saliba will also expect a significant increase in his current wages if an agreement is to be reached between both parties.

The 24-year-old has been a key player for the Gunners since the 2022-23 campaign and still has his peak years ahead of him.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has further bolstered his squad with the signings of Viktor Gyokeres, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie this summer.

Getting Saliba to sign a new deal will be as good as securing the services of a new addition, and the Gunners boss will hope things can be wrapped up as soon as possible.

Arsenal have bolstered their defensive ranks with the recruitment of Hincapie and Mosquera, but the Frenchman remains a valuable member of the department and can become the best in his position in the world in a few years from now.
