Chiefs Show Desperation with Xavier Worthy's Surprise Return

The Kansas City Chiefs hope to avoid a 0-2 start on Sunday, as they will face the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead. The Chiefs enter this matchup without Rashee Rice, who is in the midst of serving a six-game suspension.

They also might not have second-year WR Xavier Worthy, who sustained a dislocated shoulder in Week 1 against the Los Angeles Chargers. Worthy was listed on the Week 2 injury report as a DNP for Wednesday. However, [according to ESPN’s Nate Taylor](https://x.com/ByNateTaylor/status/1966197968765362358), the speedster will be on the practice field Thursday with his teammates.

Chiefs Must Be Cautious with Xavier Worthy Despite Practice Appearance

----------------------------------------------------------------------

As you can imagine, Chiefs fans on social media were surprised to read that Worthy was on the practice field, as he had just suffered the injury last week.

The latest news we’ve received about Worthy’s injury [has been a bit confusing](https://kckingdom.com/contradicting-xavier-worthy-injury-reports-have-chiefs-fans-confused-01k4ndh887qx). ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned on the Pat McAfee Show that Worthy would “miss a little bit of time” and be week-to-week.

Meanwhile, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters on Monday that the young receiver is rehabbing and working on his shoulder, and they’ll take it day by day.

Regardless of the reporting, Kansas City needs to proceed with caution when determining when the young wide receiver should return to the field. We know the Chiefs have a tough game on Sunday and then a matchup two weeks later against the Baltimore Ravens, where you would like to have Worthy and his game-breaking speed on the field.

However, the Chiefs need to think about the future, aka the rest of the season. You would rather have a somewhat healthy Worthy for the stretch run than risk putting him out there to re-injure himself during the first month of the season.

In fact, one could make the case that if Kansas City can’t get any production out of Hollywood Brown, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton, they’re in serious trouble, and Worthy won’t be the ultimate fix.

The last time the Chiefs started the regular season 0-2 was in 2014, which was Reid’s second year with the organization. Kansas City finished with a 9-7 record and didn’t make the playoffs. KC likely does not want to be in that position, as they have that looming matchup against Baltimore in Week 4.
