Four Leeds United stars to ponder over their future after latest shocking comments

Heading into this new season, Leeds United boss Daniel Farke made it clear which part of the team needed reinforcements. After friendlies against tough opponents like Manchester United and AC Milan, the German spotted some issues.

According to him, the team lacked quality and attacking edge in the final third. Leeds had spent most of their transfer window adding to the defence and the midfield. The quality in those two areas could be seen as the Whites have held their own against major opposition so far this campaign.

But the goals remain a rare quantity among the Leeds attack. Lukas Nmecha is the only attacker at the club to have scored this season, and it came from the penalty spot.

Leeds are not converting chances, and at this level, you are punished for your mistakes. The 5-0 loss to Arsenal was a steep learning curve – after the Whites held their own for over half an hour, it took one goal to open the floodgates.

Ahead of the game against Fulham this weekend, Daniel Farke has asked his attackers to step up and provide some goals:

“Not just Willy, but Daniel James also has a point to prove on this level, also Jack Harrison after a good start, back to life, also right now still on the run to win all the supporters back.

“Brenden Aaronson also point to prove… So all my offensive players also need to step up.”

Gnonto is ready to carry goalscoring burden

Just over 24 hours before Farke made his point in the press conference, Gnonto had been speaking to BBC Radio Leeds about this season. He mentioned that he is ready to carry the goalscoring burden for the team if they need him:

“I think it’s time,”

“Playing upfront you have to try to defend and everything but we’ll always be judged for goals and assists. I think it’s time.

“We struggled a bit scoring goals and creating chances but I’m sure it’s going to come. I’m sure we’re working well and I’m sure we have the quality so we’re going to score and help the team too.”

Wilfried Gnonto had nine goals and six assists in 43 appearances last season.
