Being a newly promoted club is not easy, and Leeds United fans can attest to that over the last few years. The Whites were only away from the English top flight for just two seasons before their return this August.
Daniel Farke did a fantastic job after he was hired to deliver promotion by the 49ers. The ownership backed the team in the transfer market, even when they had to make some questionable decisions to balance the books. The recent PSR update from managing director Robbie Evans explains why the Whites did not splash the cash at the end of the window.

Buying top players is a great way to close the gap in quality in the Premier League. Sunderland went all out, spending one of the highest transfer chests this summer. This in turn drew a lot of comparisons from Leeds fans, who wanted their ownership to also show some ambition. Unfortunately, the Whites finished their business early, and missed out on a huge opportunity on deadline day.
Don Goodman has now delivered his assessment on which of the three newly promoted sides stand a chance at survival. He says that even though it is early in the season, Leeds’ home form will play a big part this season:
“Obviously, it’s too early to know if it’ll be enough for Leeds United, so the answer really is time will tell,” Goodman said (quotes via YEP). “But four points is a good start for Leeds. The fact that nobody has scored against them at home is impressive, which will give them confidence.
“When you look at the new signings, Daniel Farke has eased them into the team, really. There’s only Lucas Perri, Gabriel Gudmundsson, and Anton Stach who have been heavily involved so far. They’re the only ones who have started all three games, but then I thought Sean Longstaff was excellent against Newcastle United in the last game.
“When Dominic Calvert-Lewin came on, he added to the attacking element, so it’s too early to say, but things are looking good so far.”
Goodman added that he thinks Leeds have a real chance of survival, alongside one of Burnley or Sunderland.
“I can see it being different this season. I can see at least one, if not more, of the promoted teams surviving. Certainly, of the three, most people would have Leeds to be the one that could survive.”
