The Dallas Mavericks officially signed PJ Washington Jr. to a four-year contract extension.
Washington averaged 14.7 points, 2.3 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.1 blocks per game last season, alongside a career-high 7.8 rebounds through 57 games in 2024-25. The 27 year old forward posted a career-high 14 double-doubles in 2024-25, which surpassed his previous career best (10) in 2020-21.
Extending Washington is a smart decision for the Mavericks as he’s entering his prime and offers defensive versatility, floor spacing, and untapped offense that fits with the team’s new core. It was a good financial move as well for the organization, as the new contract averages around 22.5 million a year. Mavericks didn’t overpay and Washington gets long-term security in his hometown. With the ability to defend multiple positions, Washington’s presence allows the team to play both small and big lineups without compromising spacing or switchability.
Washington is a long-term asset who aligns with the championship window and future of the team. With the playoff experience he’s gained in Dallas and the two-way impact he provides the team, extending him ensures the Mavs retain a key piece as they build sustainable success with a retooled roster.
