Manchester United were unable to seal the deal for Malick Fofana
Manchester United saw themselves adding £200m worth of attacking talents in the recently concluded summer transfer window. But that didn’t stop them from putting the cash on the table once again on the deadline day, where they explored a move to sign Belgian sensation Malick Fofana.
Ruben Amorim was out to resolve the goalscoring problem that he faced in the last season. And he went out and brought in Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko to form one of the most lethal attacking trios on paper in the English top tier this season.
But then on the other side, United also went on to get a lot of players out the doors at Carrington. But reports in French media suggest that the exit of one particular player was key for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to pick up that phone trying to sign Fofana.
Malick Fofana was seen as a Garnacho replacement

Manchester United tied to sign Malick Fofana in the recently concluded summer transfer window.
Latest reports from Foot Mercato insist that Man United were looking to bring in possible replacements for Alejandro Garnacho before last Monday’s deadline when they stumbled across this idea to bring Fofana to M16.
We saw the Argentine sensation moving to Chelsea in a £40m transfer after that much public fallout with Ruben Amorim.
The high-flying Lyon winger claimed to come through as an option after Garnacho was sold, complemented by the injury that Cunha suffered against Burnley.

Manchester United were unable to seal the deal for Malick Fofana.
Ruben Amorim was about to get more on the significant backing that he received in a £200 million summer splurge.
It was very wise of the chiefs at Carrington to consider someone like Malick Fofana to take over the left flank reins from Garnacho. The Argentine was always regarded as the player who would make that position his own for the next decade at Old Trafford. So all that United did was try to bring in someone who has that same capacity in a similar position.
But it would always have been difficult to convince the Belgian of a possible move this summer. We have seen him being linked to some other Premier League rivals all summer, but none of those moves materialised. But this bold approach from United also shows how the club are not just looking along for the rebuild but are ready to invest in Ruben Amorim’s vision of this team.
