Manchester United are set to return to Premier League action this weekend, and Ruben Amorim’s side will face a massive challenge in Manchester City. It will be the battle of two bitter rivals that sets up a weekend to match the headlines that the Manchester derby creates, but one of them already has an upper hand going into the game.
Pep Guardiola’s side has suffered a big injury blow ahead of the derby. Manchester City have announced that Egyptian wide forward Omar Marmoush will miss Sunday’s derby at Etihad Stadium.

Omar Marmoush to miss Sunday’s Manchester derby.
Following appearances in all of City’s first three games of the season, the former Frankfurt star went out to represent his country in the ongoing international break. He was called up in the Egypt squad to play in 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and Burkina Faso this month.
He did find the back of the net by scoring a penalty in a 2-0 win over Ethiopia. But Marmoush suffered a knee injury just four minutes into the game against Burkina Faso. He did try to walk it off, but he was soon hobbling off.
And it was after the game when the Egyptian FA confirmed that Marmoush had sustained a “knee ligament bruise”. The statement indicated that he “will undergo an X-ray upon his arrival in Cairo on Wednesday morning.”
That was followed by a statement from Manchester City confirming that Marmoush won’t play any part in the 197th Manchester Derby, which is scheduled to kick off this weekend.
City have a few injury concerns beyond Marmoush

City have a few injury concerns in their camp. Marmoush was not the first player to come back with an injury from the international hiatus, with John Stones withdrawing from the England squad because of a muscle problem.
Khusanov also pulled out of the Uzbekistan squad before the international games. He picked up a calf injury in Man City’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton.
While all of Josko Gvardiol, Phil Foden, Savinho, Marcus Bettinelli, Rico Lewis and Nico O’Reilly have been nursing knocks. And then you have Kovacic and Cherki, who also remain unavailable.
