M16 chiefs ready to sell£47.2m Manchester United first team star

Manchester United plot Andre Onana sale for 2026

Manchester United have seen themselves grab a lot of headlines in the past couple of years with Andre Onana. He has made some huge profile errors donning the Manchester Reds badge and all it did was generated a lot of unwanted attention and criticism from everywhere.

Onana’s tenure at United has been marked by inconsistency and high-profile errors

This is where Ruben Amorim decided to pull the trigger and get his services transferred out of the dressing room at Carrington. And it does look like he would be moving to Turkish giants Trabzonspor on loan. But the chiefs at M16 are hoping that he performs well enough to attract permanent offers next summer.

Now the sources from Football Insider insist that the Premier League heavyweights are no longer counting on the Cameroonian. His contract at Old Trafford holds good until 2028. And the fact that United went ahead in the final hours of the transfer window to bring in Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp shows how the Portuguese head coach doesn’t plan to have Onana as #1 choice at Old Trafford.

Onana needs to regain consistency and reduce errors.

The Ajax academy graduate moved to Man United in a highly anticipated deal with the Premier League heavyweights forking out a mega £47.2m for his signatures in 2023. But then what has been string of shaky performances along the past couple of years, it has left him on the back foot and he was already fighting for his place coming into this season. But then Amorim gave him his opportunity in the EFL Cup and that unconvincing display against Grimsby was the final nail in the coffin which forced Amorim to move in a different direction in terms of their plans between the sticks.

Now United are looking at this Turkish loan spell as an opportunity for Onana to try and get some confidence back in his gloves and try to restore market value.

And if everything goes as per plans, the hope among the chiefs at Old Trafford would to to cash in on him next summer. If he were to be sold in the recently concluded summer window it would be a costly misstep in the transfer market.

Now with Lammens coming in as a number #1 choice alongside Bayindir, it does look like there is no pathway back for Onana at M16.
