“A Smart Move”–Saha Urges Man United To Make January Raid For Player Who Saw Deadline Day Transfer Collapse

Ex-Man United striker Louis Saha has backed his former club to make a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi in the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old saw a £35m move to Liverpool collapse on deadline day at the start of this month and speaking to Flashscore (via Metro), Saha said it would be “a smart move” to secure the former Chelsea player’s signature:

“Marc Guehi is very strong, very solid, very reliable, quick and a good leader. It’s definitely an opportunity to hijack this and stop Liverpool getting stronger.”

“It would be a smart move. I don’t think he would turn down United if the bid goes in correctly. There will be only six months left on this contract; there is definitely an opportunity there.”

Guehi will have plenty of suitors in the New Year

In addition to interest from Liverpool and other Premier League teams, the England international will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs on January 1st.

Real Madrid and Barcelona have already been mentioned as potential destinations for Guehi, so the Red Devils will face a tough task in persuading him to make the switch to Old Trafford.

Man United may not prioritise a new centre-back

Head coach Ruben Amorim already has the likes of Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson at his disposal in the middle of defence, so there is a good chance that the club will focus on reinforcing other positions first.

When you assess the first few games, it’s obvious that central midfield is in dire need of strengthening. If the Red Devils are to devote funds to signing a new player in January, that’s the area that will be prioritised.
