While it’s easy to overreact two weeks into the NFL season, the Green Bay Packers might just be the best team in the league, Four days after absolutely manhandling the Detroit Lions, who many expect to be one of the NFC’s top teams this season, the Packers then eviscerated another squad universally thought of as a top-class team, dominating the Washington Commanders 27-18 in a contest that was never in doubt. Quarterback Jordan Love has continued his electrifying season thanks to his ability to heroically punish defenses when they blitz.

Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers Crush the Washington Commanders
When the Green Bay Packers embarked on their 2025 campaign, much of the team’s ability to make it to the next level hinged upon Jordan Love being able to rise to the occasion and be the best version of himself. So far, he has pretty much done exactly that.
In two games so far, Love has averaged 240 yards per game on 66% completions. He has 4 touchdowns, 0 turnovers, a passer rating of 120.0, and a QBR of 76.7. He has played like an elite NFL QB so far in 2025.

Thursday night against Washington, Love had a few missed opportunities but nonetheless had 292 passing yards in a very impressive display. Matt LaFleur was certainly dialing up excellent offensive plays, with Love routinely finding open receivers for explosive gains. Tight end Tucker Kraft ended the day with 6 catches for 124 yards and a TD, including a 57-yard gain in the opening quarter. The Commanders had no answer for the Packers offense, which totaled 404 yards.

Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love is Dominating Against the Blitz
What is specifically impressive about Love’s game was how effective he was against the blitz. When Dan Quinn’s defense brought pressure, Love was more often than not able to punish them for big gains down the field.
Jordan Love finished 9 of 15 for 175 yards and both touchdowns against the Commanders’ blitz.
On throw of 10+ air yards against the blitz, Love was 6 of 8 for 144 yards and a touchdown (+10.7 EPA). His 14.5 air yards per attempt is a career high mark.#WASvsGB | #GoPackGo pic.twitter.com/eW3ZZYeMOt

One of Love’s most impressive completions against the blitz came to Malik Heath. In the second quarter, Love dialed up a go ball to Heath, who released up the sideline and made a toe-dragging catch despite defense from Marshon Lattimore.

The 37-yard completion was one of many against Washington pressures. It was also, according to NextGen Stats, one of the least probable completions in recent history. With a completion probability of just 7.9%, it marks the third-lowest improbable catch since 2018.
In albeit a small sample size, Love has excelled against pressure. In Week 1 against Detroit, when blitzed, Love went 8/9 for 128 yards and 1 TD. 5 of the completions were good for first downs. The resulting 155.8 passer rating is certainly eye-popping. Through two games, his passing stats against the blitz are 17/22 for 303 yards and 3 TDs.

Love’s goals for the beginning of the season involved consistently being able to be the best version of himself. So far in 2025, he has been close to his best. Pair that with one of the best defenses in the NFL, and you have a team with their eyes firmly set on the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
