West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers showed serious interest in Nelson Deossa before he joined Real Betis in the summer window.
That’s according to El Desmarque, who report how Real Betis overcame tough competition from West Ham and Wolves to sign the midfielder from CF Monterrey.
Deossa joined Monterrey in January and his performances for them attracted interest from West Ham, Wolves and Real Betis.
The report states the Premier League clubs gathered positive reports about the 25-year-old and made approaches to acquire his signature.
West Ham and Vítor Pereira’s side were in a ‘fierce battle’ with the La Liga club, by tabling bids and offering a salary higher than the one proposed by Real Betis.
Betis faced the risk of losing the Colombia international to the Premier League, and to avoid this, Real Betis CEO Ramón Alarcón and sporting director, Manu Fajardo, travelled to Mexico to convince him.
According to the report, the Spanish club presented their project and what Deossa could achieve with them, and this trip was key for them to beat both Graham Potter’s side and Wolves in the signing race.
Earlier this week, Alarcón confirmed Wolves made an “incredible offer” but made no mention of the Hammers.
