Liverpool boss Arne Slot believes Harvey Elliott will hit the ground running at Aston Villa following his deadline day switch to Unai Emery’s side.

The 22-year-old joins Villa on an initial loan, with the club set to make the move permanent after agreeing to an obligation to buy for £35 million.

Elliott won six trophies during his time at Liverpool, including two Premier League titles under both Jürgen Klopp and Slot.

In Klopp’s final two seasons, Elliott made 18 starts in total. However, after starting just twice in the league under Slot last season, he is now in need of more regular minutes.

“Harvey is in a very good place, going to a very nice club in Aston Villa,” Slot said in his press conference.

“It is in the interest of everyone. He didn’t get the playing time he deserves for the quality of player he is.

“He conducted himself so well. It wasn’t only when he said that this is his club and he wants to say this to the fans — he acted this way inside. He was always doing what was in the best interest of the club, so he deserves a big compliment for that.

“Everyone always talks about Mo, Virgil, and others when we win the league, but players like him were also definitely the reason why we won it, because he always was positive, and even in 10 minutes he helped the team.

“I think he is completely ready to show the quality he has at Aston Villa.”
