Newcastle United issue injury updates on new signings Yoane Wissa and Jacob Ramsey.

Yoane Wissa joined the Magpies on transfer deadline day from Brentford for £55million before going on international duty with DR Congo. And a knee injury picked up in Wednesday’s 3-2 defeat to Senegal has delayed the 29-year-old’s Newcastle debut.

Wissa marked his first appearance of the new campaign with a goal in a 4-1 victory in South Sudan last weekend. He played 62 minutes and kept his place in the starting line-up for the home match against Senegal four days later.

And Wissa was on the scoresheet again to put DR Congo 2-0 up, however, the result ended in heartbreak as Senegal won 3-2 with an 87th-minute winner from Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pape Matar Sarr.

The goal came just over 10 minutes after Wissa was forced to withdraw with a knee issue.

Yoane Wissa’s Newcastle United debut put on hold

Howe said: “He won't make this game. I saw him for the first time yesterday, he's feeling the effects of the injury sustained just before he came off, so we're going to have to see how he is.”

And Howe was unable to confirm when Wissa would return.

Asked if Wissa would be back for Barcelona on Thursday, Howe said: “Yeah, I don't know currently as I sit here. I think he'll go away for tests and maybe see a specialist to see. So unfortunately, I can't give you that update.”

Jacob Ramsey ruled out until October international break

Howe also confirmed Jacob Ramsey is expected to be sidelined until after the October international break, which will see him miss seven games.

Ramsey, a £39million summer signing from Aston Villa, made his debut as a substitute in the 3-2 defeat at home to Liverpool before starting the following game away to Leeds United.

However, the 24-year-old’s full debut was cut short after he hurt his ankle in a tackle with former United midfielder Sean Longstaff. The incident occurred midway through the first half, where he carried on before being withdrawn at half-time.

Howe said: “Jacob Ramsey's the only other injury concern that we have, he'll miss the game having suffered from that tackle against Leeds.

“His ankle swelled up at half time, meant he had to come off and unfortunately I think he'll be missing until the next international break so that's a big blow. “

But there is some good news

In better news, Newcastle are set to be boosted by the return of Joelinton, who missed the Leeds game due a muscle injury.

“Joe has trained during the last, I'm just trying to remember how many days he's trained, but yeah he's been fit and available. He's been out on the training pitch and he's looked good so I'm really happy to welcome him back, such an important player.”
