How should Chelsea line up against Brentford on Saturday night?

After a lengthy international break (and a dramatic transfer deadline day), Chelsea are back in action this weekend, making the short trip out to Brentford for a bit of Saturday night West London football.

This match will signal the start of a busy period for the Blues, with two games every week putting our good form and squad depth to the test. And unfortunately, we already have some concerns about the latter thanks to some early-season injuries.

Dário Essugo and Liam Delap have joined Levi Colwill with long-term problems — both hamstrings, with Essugo set to miss several months and Delap out until mid-November — while neither Benoît Badiashile nor Roméo Lavia are expected to be ready to return just yet. But all eyes will be on the status of Cole Palmer, who may or may not have returned to training this week. We’ll see what Enzo Maresca might say about the starman’s status, but I’d err on the side of caution regardless. It’s a long season ahead.

On the flip side of the availability ledger, we should have new signings Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Buonanotte, as well as returning loanee Marc Guiu available for selection for the first time. Moisés Caicedo also appears to have overcome a knock during the break.
