Man Utd team news: Predicted XI vs Man City as Sesko and Mainoo decisions made

A last-gasp Bruno Fernandes penalty spared Manchester United’s blushes last time out against Burnley and gave Ruben Amorim a much-needed victory. It will count for little though, if United aren’t able to back it up this weekend, as the Red Devils return after the international break with a trip to face bitter rivals Manchester City.

Amorim went unbeaten across three matches against Pep Guardiola last season (one with Sporting, two with United) and will be looking to cause the Catalan coach yet more problems on Sunday. And ahead of the weekend fixture, Express Sport have predicted who we think will be in the starting XI for United.

Man Utd's predicted XI vs Man City

Goalkeeper: Bayindir

Senne Lammens arrived at the club late in the transfer window, but it’s unlikely the Belgian is thrown straight in at the deep end for this one. However, Altay Bayindir certainly has his flaws, so it will be all eyes on the Turk should he get the nod on Sunday.

Defence: Yoro, De Ligt, Shaw

One of the few bright sparks from United’s season so far has been the back three, with Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw having struck up a solid partnership. If fit, expect the three of them to retain their positions in defence for a fourth consecutive Premier League outing.

Midfield: Amad, Casemiro, Fernandes, Dorgu

Amad is the most likely pick to retain his spot at right wing-back, not least because of his exploits at the Etihad Stadium last season. Although, after a shaky start to the season, he’ll be hoping for a better performance this weekend. Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes have forged a workable midfield pivot, meaning the only big decision for Amorim in midfield is whether to go with Patrick Dorgu or Diogo Dalot. We’re tipping the tactician to go with the more industrious Dorgu on the left flank.

Attack: Mbeumo, Sesko, Mainoo

Bryan Mbeumo has taken well to life at United so far and has netted in each of his previous two outings for the three-time European champions. He’s a shoo-in for a spot in attack, but with injuries to Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha, Amorim will likely have to reshuffle behind him. Benjamin Sesko has had enough time to work on his match fitness, so expect him to be thrown in, while Kobbie Mainoo will likely take up the spot left behind by Mount.
