Liverpool face new injury for Burnley clash despite Frimpong and Bradley returns

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that Curtis Jones will be unavailable for Sunday's Premier League clash against Burnley. The Premier League champions will be without the midfielder at Turf Moor due to injury but he is expected to be the only absentee after the returns of Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong.

The right-back position has been problematic in the early stages of the new season, with Dominik Szoboszlai stepping in due to injuries to Bradley and Frimpong. However, both defenders are now fit for the journey to Burnley, with Bradley having played twice for Northern Ireland during the international break and Frimpong returning to Liverpool training this week.

"I think they are [all available]," said Slot on Friday. "We train today with most of them after the international break. "Curtis Jones got injured in the last game and will not be available against Burnley. All of the players came back without injuries."

Slot has meanwhile warned Liverpool fans not to expect too much too soon from club-record signing Alexander Isak, who has yet to play a single minute of club football so far this season. The £125million Swedish striker played for his country over the break but is still some way short of fitness to be considered for a starting spot.

The Dutch coach added: "First of all, the Swedish manager Jon Dahl Tomasson deserves a big compliment because he gets maybe the best striker in the world, and needs to play two very important but understands if he plays him twice for 90 minutes then probably the player would have been injured for multiple weeks.

"That is not always easy for a manager that he takes care of the interest of a player. We will treat Alex the same as he did. Don’t expect him to be every single game 90 minutes on the pitch. That’s definitely not going to happen for the next few weeks.

"He missed a proper pre-season. I think he missed three or four months of team sessions, so now we have to build him up gradually with us playing so many games and hardly any training time.

"That is going to be a challenge, but we have not just signed him for the upcoming two weeks, we have signed him for six years so this is what we have to keep in mind."
