Cowboys have no-brainer free agent to sign after DaRon Bland's foot injury

Heading into the 2025 season, there was speculation regarding whether All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs would be healthy enough to start the year, and thankfully, he was. A curveball was thrown at the Dallas Cowboys when DaRon Bland suffered a foot injury that could keep him out for multiple weeks, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Rookie Shavon Revel remains out until Week 7 once he returns from a torn ACL while still in college. Caelen Carson and Josh Butler can return as early as Week 5 from injured reserve and the PUP list, respectively. The injuries are numerous for the Cowboys' defensive backs.

Signing a free agent is not ideal, considering the talent and depth if everyone is healthy. The injury history for many in the locker room and depletion of starters and backups make it difficult to continue without adding some insurance.

Cowboys need to sign Kendall Fuller after DaRon Bland's foot injury

Kendall Fuller is a versatile corner with experience in the slot and out wide. He had his fair share of injuries in 2024, missing games due to concussions and a nagging knee injury to end the season. Statistically, it was one of his worst of his career, but on the bright side, Fuller wouldn't need to be a star corner anyway.

He has a similar skillset to Diggs and Bland, playing the ball in the air while risking giving up a play. The veteran knocked down 10+ passes in five of his nine seasons, but also gave up more than a 65 percent completion percentage.

While Bland is tending to his foot injury, Fuller would be a capable replacement in the slot. The longtime Washington corner could also help out wide if another injury came up out wide. With how the 2025 season is going, Dallas needs to keep their options open.

The Cowboys should not rely on Kendall Fuller long-term, with Diggs, Bland, and Elam being preferred options when healthy. Seeing what the team has in rookie Revel is also a priority. Still, to compete this season, Fuller looks to be the bridge needed to help Dallas over the injury bug plaguing the cornerback room one week into the 2025 NFL season.
