There is set to be a major issue for UK police ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixtures, with London preparing for what promises to be a chaotic day. The Metropolitan Police will receive additional support from forces across the country as they attempt to maintain order throughout the capital.
Far-right political activist, Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has scheduled a “free speech” rally on the same day as several other high-profile events, including another demonstration, raising concerns about public safety. Among the events is West Ham’s clash with Tottenham at the London Stadium, which is expected to be just one of several potential security headaches over the 24-hour period.
Chelsea also have a West London derby against Brentford, while Championship rivals Charlton and Millwall meet in another tense local fixture. In addition, Arsenal, Crystal Palace, Fulham, AFC Wimbledon, Leyton Orient, and Crawley Town all play at home, adding to the logistical and security pressures facing authorities.

The political climate intensified this week following the assassination of Charlie Kirk, one of Donald Trump’s closest allies, during a visit to Utah Valley University. Ahead of Robinson’s event this weekend, he reportedly boasted, as per the Daily Mail, “The football lads are coming from everywhere...”
Robinson has used the ugly scenes in the USA as a rallying point to encourage thousands of supporters to join his march, which will begin in Waterloo. Meanwhile, thousands more are expected to participate in a 'Stand Up to Racism' counter-demonstration, supported by trade unions from across the country.
The scenario has been criticised by Paula Dodds, chair of the Metropolitan Police Federation. "We've seen multiple Metropolitan Police officers be refused leave and have much-needed rest days cancelled," she said, "Our colleagues have and continue to lose time with their families, friends and loved ones because they have been pulled into London to police protests.
"We must remember there are no "extra" police officers. Just the same hard-working ones having their days off cancelled, having to work longer shifts and being moved from other areas. Officers are emotionally and physically exhausted. They have come under attack and been violently assaulted for doing the job society expects of them. The demand is relentless. And it's not sustainable."

A Met Police spokesperson added: "Saturday will be a busy day in London and officers will be on duty in significant numbers to keep people safe. A protest organised by Stephen Yaxley Lennon (Tommy Robinson) will take place at the southern end of Whitehall following a march from Waterloo.
"A counter protest organised by Stand Up To Racism will also take place at the northern end of Whitehall following a march from Russell Square. Officers will be deployed throughout the day to ensure both protests take place peacefully with opposing groups kept well apart."
