Tyrone Mings speaks out on Aston Villa start as he says 'that's an understatement'

Tyrone Mings insists that only a win will suffice for Aston Villa this weekend against Everton, following a disappointing start to the campaign.

Unai Emery’s side have collected just one point from their opening three fixtures and are yet to score a goal.

Villa began the season with a goalless draw against Newcastle United, before suffering back-to-back defeats - away to Brentford and then at home to Crystal Palace.

Given their struggles before the September international break, Villa defender Mings admits the team must start putting wins together to kickstart their season.

“It’s never easy to start the season with the transfer window open,” he said on Villa TV. “Some players have gone, and some have come back.

“The international break gives you a chance to refocus and take stock of the first few games. We’re not quite where we want to be … that’s an understatement. I’m looking forward to the weekend and the new players having an impact as well.

“The break came at a good time. The international players went away and had a successful break. Hopefully, they bring that to Villa, and Cashy brings his shooting boots as well.

“It’s a massive game for us. We need to start winning games very quickly, and that will be the full focus. Nothing less than a win is good enough for us at this stage.

“But, naturally, away games in particular are very difficult. They’ve started the season well. They’ve got some very good players as well.

“For us, (Everton's new stadium) doesn’t make too much of a difference when the game starts, but I think settling their crowd, and dealing with the positive atmosphere they have around their team at the moment, will give us a real good footing to the game if we can settle quickly and take control of the game.

“It’ll be difficult, of course, but (we’re) really looking forward to it, really looking forward to seeing how we react after a disappointing start.”
