Crystal Palace vs Sunderland: Premier League Preview, Gameweek 4, 2025

Crystal Palace will play their first Saturday 3pm game of the season hosting Sunderland at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon.

Both sides have had a positive start to the new Premier League season.

The Eagles' unbeaten run stretches all the way back to April when they lost 5-0 to Newcastle.

After two draws in their opening league games against Chelsea and Nottingham Forest, they secured their first league win of the new season before the break in their last game against Aston Villa.

They have also recently won the Community Shield and secured their league phase place in the **Conference League**beating Liverpool and Fredrikstad respectively.

Sunderland have played four games this season with two league wins at the Stadium of Light against West Ham and Brentford.

They lost their one game on the road at Burnley and were also knocked out of the EFL Cup as they lost to **Huddersfield**on a penalty shootout.

The last time these two sides faced was back in February 2017 when Sunderland won 4-0 at Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace

Palace still have numerous players ruled out of action with injury, but some of these are now nearing returns.

Caleb Kporha is out of the side with a back injury that he picked up in pre-season.

Chadi Riad’s injury is an anterior cruciate ligament, which he picked up in January, and this should see him out for the next couple of months.

Ismaila Sarr picked up a hamstring injury at Villa Park and Sky Sports have confirmed this is not a serious problem. He will miss Saturday’s game but is nearing a return.

Adam Wharton has not completely been ruled out from featuring on Saturday but still may not be involved.

Yeremy Pino withdrew from international duty with Spain, but he may be able to feature against the Black Cats.

Cheick Doucoure was recently omitted from **Crystal Palace**’s Conference League squad and has been sidelined since January with a meniscus problem.

Eddie Nketiah’s hamstring injury that he picked up in pre-season should see him out for around another month.

Sunderland

Defender Aji Alese is set to miss this weekend’s game in London with a shoulder injury.

Dan Ballard picked up a groin injury at Turf Moor during the loss to Burnley and he is expected to miss this weekend’s game against Crystal Palace.

Dennis Cirkin has recently suffered a setback with his wrist injury meaning he is not expected to return.

Leo Hjelde picked up an achilles injury over the summer and is not likely to feature.

Luke O’Nien has not yet played this season because of a shoulder injury that he picked up at Wembley in the Championship play off final.

Romaine Mundle has not recovered from his hamstring injury and will be out for around another month.

Key Players

Crystal Palace – Yeremy Pino

It was an exceptional debut off the bench for the Spaniard before the international break.

If his problem with his ankle has cleared up, he may likely take a starting spot slotting in as one of the tens behind Jean-Philippe Mateta.

In his 20 minute stint, he played 13 of 14 accurate passes and created one big chance whilst also winning all of his tackles and completing all of his dribbles successfully.

Sunderland – Granit Xhaka

Following his arrival from Bayer Leverkusen, the 32-year-old was handed the role of club captain, showing his leadership qualities.

He is a versatile player for Regis Le Bris as he can play as a six or eight and has even played at left-back in his career for Arsenal.

In his opening three games back in the Premier League, he holds an impressive 85% passing accuracy.
