Newcastle United star ignores Alexander Isak after Liverpool saga to focus on £69m big picture

Newcastle United supporters are excited to see what Nick Woltemade can bring to the table this weekend.

Fabian Schar preferred to hype up Nick Woltemade rather than focus on Alexander Isak costing the team this season.

Just two points from a possible nine feels like an opportunity missed for Newcastle United. While they were poor against Leeds United, the Magpies would have likely eaten Aston Villa and Liverpool with a recognised striker.

And like London buses, Eddie Howe now has two centre-forwards at his disposal. Woltemade was joined by Yoane Wissa, who arrived on deadline day as Isak headed to Liverpool.

Newcastle United dilemma

Woltemade will likely start tomorrow after Wissa picked up a knock on international duty. Wolverhampton Wanderers - rock-bottom with three straight defeats - give the German a perfect opportunity to get off the mark.

Fabian Schar on Nick Woltemade

Speaking to The Chronicle, Toon defender Schar insisted Woltemade will “100 per cent” be a hit in the Premier League. He chose to big up the German rather than fixate or blame Isak’s exit for Newcastle’s underwhelming start.

"I think in all three games (without Isak) we have actually been very strong,” Schar said. “At Aston Villa, we were the better team and we should have won the game. Against Liverpool, we were the better team, and we showed great character to come back with 10 men after the red card.

“Nick will fit in 100 per cent in the Premier League. Obviously, it's a different league and you need to adapt, but with his qualities and motivation and everything, he's going to be a great addition to the team.

"We miss goals here and Villa, but it's not just down to the striker or whatever, but down to the whole team to create more chances. Every player we can add to this team will add something different, and surely he will add positive things.

“Mentally we have shown character and been very solid defensively. But still, we have a lot to improve moving forward. We can't show up 10 or 15 minutes late in games and not be ready, and I think at Leeds we were ready from the first minute, that is very positive."
