‘On a Shorter Leash’ – Shock claim emerges over Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future has been under speculation over the last week due to the shock availability of Jose Mourinho and Nuno Espirito Santo. The German has so far ignored such rumours, but Premier League clubs have a penchant for sacking managers, often in desperation.

Farke’s record in the Premier League is nothing to write home about. However, he is keen to fix it with Leeds, and his side have made a decent start to life in the top flight, with four points from their opening three league games.

However, questions over his long-term future continue to hover over Elland Road, especially as the 49ers’ big plans for the club are dependent on the Whites remaining in the top flight.

A Premier League manager has already lost his job when Nottingham Forest sacked Nuno, and Farke has been warned that patience is not something that most owners at top-flight clubs have in abundance.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds United future is on a shorter leash – Graham Smyth

Farke didn’t really complain about not getting the extra attackers towards the end of the window, and the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Graham Smyth claims there is a reason he didn’t speak out.

He insisted that the Leeds manager needs to keep the owners sweet as he is on a far shorter leash in the Premier League, where his record is still under scrutiny.

Smyth insisted that Premier League clubs will not shy away from sacking managers when they feel a change is needed, and we have already seen a dismissal.

He stressed that there is a lot less certainty around Farke’s ability in the Premier League.

“In the Championship, Daniel Farke is the man you want”, Smyth said on the Inside Elland Road podcast.

“He is the specialist. If you hire him, give him a decent squad, and he is going to get results, as he knows exactly how to get results in that division.

“In the Premier League, you are a lot less certain that he is the man to get you the results.

“The leash he is on is a lot shorter. We have already seen one go.

“Anyone can get the bullet in the Premier League when it comes to managers.

“I do think he is on a shorter leash, I do think he is going to be more mindful about keeping everyone on his side.”
