Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels had an incredible rookie season in 2024. He led the Commanders to a 12-5 record in the regular season and helped his team win two playoff games before losing in the NFC Championship to the eventual Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles.
After his coming-out party last season, Commanders fans had high hopes for Daniels heading into this year. He did not play badly against the New York Giants in the Commanders’ season-opening win last weekend.
However, on Thursday night, as Daniels and the Commanders struggled in the first half against the Green Bay Packers, the Washington faithful began calling the second-year quarterback out on social media.

The Packers jumped out to a 14-3 halftime lead over the Commanders at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Thursday night. The Commanders had just two drives in the first quarter of the game, both of which were three-and-outs. Daniels and his offense were able to put together one scoring drive in the second quarter, but it stalled for a field goal.
Daniels threw for just nine yards in the first quarter on nine passing attempts and finished the first half going 9-for-15 passing for 49 yards.
These dismal two quarters sent Commanders fans into a frenzy online.
“Jayden Daniels sophomore slump SZN is in full effect @PFTCommenter,” wrote one fan.
“Jayden Daniels with the full on Sophomore slump. 3 yards PA is pretty bad,” commented another.
“Jayden Daniels looking like he about to have that sophomore slump like CJ Stroud smh …” chimed in one more.
These kinds of struggles were not something Commanders fans became accustomed to seeing last season. In his rookie year, Daniels completed 69% of his passes for 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He also ran for 891 yards and scored six times on the ground.
“Really thought Jayden Daniels wouldn’t have a sophomore slump… hate to see it,” said another dejected fan.
“Jayden Daniels is not safe from sophomore slump,” tweeted one more.
With these early roadblocks in year two, only time will tell if Daniels can win back the trust of the Commanders’ supporters.
