Report: Mikel Arteta wants £355,000-a-week Arsenal duo to leave in January

Arsenal have had a huge summer transfer window as sporting director Andrea Berta and manager Mikel Arteta finally look to break the club's trophy duck, having gone five years without silverware in north London - and reports claim that they could look to sell attacking duo Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus in a bid to offset their heavy summer spending.

The report by Spanish outlet Fichajes states that Arteta wants both Trossard and Jesus out of the Emirates Stadium after making a 'huge financial effort' in the summer transfer market, spending over £300million on new players.

The duo will be allowed to depart in the January window, with Arsenal being 'willing' to listen to offers for their attacking duo after bringing in various options throughout the summer months.

Eberechi Eze, Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres have arrived into Arteta's ranks this summer, for fees totalling around £180million, which has punted Jesus down to being Arsenal's third-choice striker behind Gyokeres and Kai Havertz, whilst Eze and Gabriel Martinelli will battle it out for minutes on the left-flank, with Madueke offering support for Bukayo Saka on the right.

With Max Dowman and Ethan Nwaneri coming through the ranks, Trossard especially will see his game time dwindle in north London, and now the board view their departures as an opportunity to bolster the club's financial coffers, with the duo having combined wages of £355,000-a-week.

Arsenal's plan, after an expensive summer transfer window, is to bring in a 'significant' amount of money in the January window, needing balance the books and generate a profit margin for any future transactions. Jesus and Trossard represent two major names that they could bring money in for, given that there is European interest in the duo.

Jesus joined Arsenal in the summer of 2022, and scored 11 goals in 26 Premier League games in his debut campaign in north London, but games and goals have been hard to come by in recent times, and he's only notched 15 strikes in 63 outings since the start of the 2023/24 campaign, with just seven of those coming in the Premier League.

Trossard, meanwhile, has fared better. The Belgian joined just six months later than Jesus from Brighton, and although he had a slow start in the 2022/23 campaign, he became a vital player for the Gunners over the past two seasons, scoring 20 league goals in 68 games from playing across the front line, including featuring in every Premier League game last season.
