Long-serving Jamaal Lascelles has been linked with a late exit from Newcastle United.

Turkish side Trabzonspor have been linked with a deadline day move for Newcastle United leader Jamaal Lascelles.

The English transfer window has been closed for over a week, with Newcastle spending over £250million on six new signings, as well as recouping £165m from the sales of Alexander Isak, Sean Longstaff and Lloyd Kelly.

The Magpies also sanctioned several other senior exits. Callum Wilson, Jamal Lewis and Isaac Hayden were released, Odysseas Vlachodimos, Matt Targett and Joe White departed on loan, while Martin Dubravka moved to Burnley for a nominal fee.

While Eddie Howe’s side are unable to bring in any new signings until January, exits are still permitted to leagues whose transfer windows remain open.

The Turkish transfer window doesn’t close until tonight and ahead of that deadline, Mail Online have reported Trabzonspor are exploring a move for Lascelles.

The 31-year-old was first linked with a move to Turkey in January 2024 before a couple of months later, he sustained an ACL injury in the 4-3 comeback win over West Ham United at St James’ Park.

Lascelles is now back fit after spending over a year on the sidelines. The centre-back featured during pre-season but has yet to make a competitive appearance as he is behind the likes of Fabian Schar, Malick Thiaw, Dan Burn and Sven Botman in the pecking order.

The club’s former captain was also left out of their Champions League squad and is out of contract this summer, but Howe doesn’t want to lose him from the group before January.

Asked about Lascelles and other potential departures, Howe said: “I don't 100% know what's going to happen with the whole squad. I'd imagine time's running out on certain windows. Certainly, from my viewpoint, I'd want to keep the squad together now.”

Eddie Howe reflects on Newcastle United 2025 summer transfer window

Howe spoke to the media for the first time following the closure of the transfer window as he previewed Saturday’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Asked about the transfer window, Howe said: “Yes, a lot happened. I think I always say the same in transfer windows, you can make snap judgements once the signings are initially made but time always is the best judgement of that and I think we will see how this is viewed as we move forward.

“My gut feel and the initial reaction is it's been, in terms of the incomings, is very strong, I really like the group of players that we've added to the already really strong squad, not just in terms of ability and playing style but in terms of people, so I think the group and the spirit and the feel of the group will be very strong again.

“Of course, we've lost a few players in there as well and that's always an adjustment period for the squad to stabilise and to find its feet in terms of a new squad and a new team and all those things that we will now have to go and prove how good we are but I'm excited about the possibilities of this squad.”
