Altay Bayindir will start in goal for Manchester United in the first derby of the season at City on Sunday but Matheus Cunha, Mason Mount and Diogo Dalot are all unavailable through injury.
United signed goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day and allowed Andre Onana to join Trabzonspor on a season-long loan.
Lammens, 23, is considered a prospect for the future and Bayindir will retain his place, having started the first three Premier League fixtures of the campaign.
Cunha was forced off in the first half of the 3-2 win against Burnley two weeks ago while Mount made way at half-time. Dalot withdrew from the Portugal squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Armenia and Hungary.
Kobbie Mainoo could be in line for his first start in the Premier League since May while Benjamin Sesko is on contention for his full league debut.
"We are really pleased," Amorim said of the Lammens signing. "He is a goalkeeper with a lot of potential, I know we are in a moment where the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience.
"But also in the moment we have to look at the present but with a focus on the future, it’s a little bit of both. A guy with great potential, one more option to play and he will be ready.
"Sometimes you as a club, you try to see different options, sometimes you are able to do one option or another, we have an option that can give us different things in the moment but also has the potential to be our goalkeeper for a lot of years. That was our choice in the end.
"Altay is going to continue (in goal) because it’s a different league, a different country, different trainings, different ball, so we will try to maintain that. They will fight for the position. For this game, it is clear Altay will start."
Amorim declined to offer a return date for Mount, Cunha and Dalot. "They are out for this game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take, we need the guys to be a very, very competitive team. We have players who are eager, so we will be competitive on Sunday. But they are out, they cannot help us in this game.
"I don’t want to say. If you talk with Cunha, if you catch Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game! I don't know. We will manage day by day but they are pushing really hard. And that is a good thing."
Amorim felt it was in the best interests of all parties that Onana left on loan. “Not just us as a club but also Andre, I think we understood this needed a change. Sometimes it’s hard to point why. It’s the performance, it’s the moment, the bad luck in some moments was hard on him, was hard on us.
“Our thinking is to have a change in the goalkeepers but I wish the best for Andre Onana. He was really good on working, trying to help the players, but sometimes you can have all the quality in the world but you need to change the environment to return to your level. That was a feeling for us and for Andre.”
