'Fantastic': Sheffield Wednesday fans will love Henrik Pedersen's praise for Harry Amass

The young full-back will spend the 2025/26 season with the Owls, and has already earned praise from his new head coach.

After reports emerged earlier in the window that Sheffield Wednesday wanted to sign Amass on loan from Manchester United, the Owls got their wish.

As well as Amass, Sheffield Wednesday wanted Toby Collyer on loan from the Red Devils, but he joined the Owls’ Championship rivals West Brom.

Manchester United prodigy Amass has made seven first-team appearances for the Premier League giants already at the age of 18, and has been sent on loan to the Owls under Henrik Pedersen for his first taste of Championship football.

Sheffield Wednesday face Bristol City this weekend following the international break, and Amass is in line for his start with Pedersen singing his praises ahead of Saturday’s clash.

Henrik Pedersen praises Sheffield Wednesday loanee Harry Amass

Despite the ongoing financial crisis at Sheffield Wednesday under owner Dejphon Chansiri, which has seen EFL embargoes and a summer exodus plague the Owls this summer, Amass signed on the dotted line in S6.

Sheffield Wednesday are in crisis, but that did not deter the 18-year-old full-back from wanting to join the Owls this season, and he will be desperate for his first Hillsborough outing this weekend.

Not only will Amass bring vast qualities to Sheffield Wednesday in terms of his ability on the field, but Pedersen has also been most pleased by his attitude since arriving from Old Trafford.

In an interview with Sheffield Star reporter Joe Crann ahead of the Bristol City clash, the Sheffield Wednesday boss sang the praises of the Man Utd loanee.

Pedersen said: “Harry is fantastic. Since I spoke with him first time and his hunger to come to this football club, because he also knows the story of this football club.

“He also has seen us and he wants to be a part of this, that he wants to be an important part of this is fantastic.

“Because we’re Sheffield Wednesday…”

“And how Harry has been in the (training) session and how open-minded he has been, how positive he has been and how constructive he has been.

“Yeah, it’s been great to have him as a part of the team.”

Harry Amass may struggle for Sheffield Wednesday vs Bristol City

So far this season under summer appointment Gerhard Struber, the Robins have been in fine form during the opening four games and head into the Owls trip still undefeated.

Although two Bristol City stars, Ross McCrorie and Radek Vitek, feature in WhoScored’s Championship Team of the 2025/26 Season so far, some of their omitted Robins team-mates will prove to be a handful for Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

Bristol City signed Emil Riis Jakobsen this summer after his Preston North End exit, and the Danish striker has been in stellar form so far this season.

The former Owls transfer target has scored twice and notched one assist in the four Championship games, and will go into the clash buoyed by his brace against Hull City last time out.

As well as Jakobsen, Scott Twine has been a real handful as the right-sided attacking midfielder in Struber’s 3-4-2-1 Robins system, with Birmingham City and Wrexham target Zak Vyner continuing to impress in defence.

If Amass is granted his first Owls start by Pedersen, it may be a baptism of fire for the Man Utd loanee against an in-form Bristol City side looking to continue their undefeated streak as the Owls hunt for their first win of the season.
