Bill Belichick, the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels, didn’t receive good reviews from fans and the media during the first two weeks of his tenure at Chapel Hill.

Earlier this week, college football analyst Paul Finebaum spoke harshly about Belichick’s time at UNC. Belichick also caused many problems when he didn’t let New England Patriots scouts attend UNC’s home games. Many thought this was an unnecessary decision that only made things worse for his players.
Finebaum used two simple words to describe Belichick’s time at UNC: “Fairly laughable.”
“I want to be a fan of Bill Belichick, but he makes it impossible. The first game was just an absolute and total disaster on the biggest stage he will ever have at North Carolina. The second game meant nothing. I mean, they are playing at Charlotte, not exactly the bastion of college football. I think he will struggle. I think his comments make it even more difficult (to like him),” Finebaum said.
“I guess maybe because you are 73 years old. But to say what he did about locking the Patriots out, it’s just downright stupid,” he said on ‘The Rich Eisen Show.’
He even included some personal insults. People have been talking a lot about Belichick’s relationship with his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, before the season began.
Finebaum also said that in the first game against TCU, there wasn’t a single player on Belichick’s UNC team worth scouting. He added that coaches usually want scouts to visit to help their players, but Belichick didn’t allow it. Finebaum criticized Belichick, calling him petty and small-minded.
However, he mentioned that because Belichick has won six Super Bowls and was part of two others as an assistant, people tend to let him get away with such behavior.
So far, Belichick’s team has had mixed results. In his first game at UNC, they lost terribly to TCU. But in the second week, they won 20-3 against Charlotte. However, the off-field controversies that started when he took the job have hurt his reputation more.

Mike Vrabel Clears the Air About the Bill Belichick and Patriots Feud
The dispute between Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots is still making headlines. After the Patriots parted ways with the legendary coach in 2023, things between the two have not been friendly. The situation became public when Belichick said Patriots scouts are not allowed at North Carolina’s football facilities.
“It’s obvious I’m not welcome at their facility, so they’re not welcome at ours.”
This statement caught a lot of attention. Mike Vrabel, the current Patriots head coach, decided to address the issue. On Monday, during ‘The Greg Hill Show,’ Vrabel clarified that Belichick is always welcome at Patriots facilities.
He said, “Since his departure as a head coach here, he’s been back, and I’ll leave it at that.”
Vrabel also mentioned that Belichick attended Tom Brady’s Hall of Fame induction at Gillette Stadium in June 2024. That shows Belichick has already returned to Patriots property since leaving the team.
