Lakers’ Luka Dončić Snaps Up Manhattan Beach home of Maria Sharapova for $25M

Manhattan Beach got some star power to go along with its most expensive home sale ever, as Los Angeles Lakers point guard Luka Dončić dropped $25 million for tennis star Maria Sharapova’s former pad.The home in the city’s Hill Section neighborhood quietly traded off market in a deal that was recorded with the Los Angeles County Recorder Aug. 27, according to the deed. The Daily Breeze was the first to identify Dončić as the buyer.A trust tied to Lara Beth Seager, Dončić’s business manager, is listed as the buyer on the deed.Carolwood Estates’ Susân Perryman was the listing agent, according to a July report from the Wall Street Journal about the home hitting the market. However, it doesn’t appear that the property ever went on the Multiple Listing Service.Carolwood did not respond to requests for comment Thursday. It was not immediately known what brokerage, if any, represented Dončić in the purchase.  The custom-built home sits on about a quarter of an acre and is 8,600 square feet with five bedrooms, according to the Journal.Perryman had told the newspaper at the time that Sharapova and her fiancé Alexander Gilkes wanted to sell the home so they could spend more time with family in Europe.Dončić’s new pad edges past the $24.5 million sale of a Manhattan Beach home on The Strand that took the record for the city’s priciest-ever trade when it sold last year.Properties on The Strand have long held the records for most expensive home sales in the city. The last record holder, 1800 The Strand, was sold last July and has claimed the record title each of the three times it has gone on the market. Before 1800 The Strand, the last record for Manhattan Beach was 1000 The Strand, a corner-lot property that sold in 2017 for $21 million.  Homes in Manhattan Beach traded for a median price of $3.1 million in July, according to Redfin data. That’s a year-over-year jump of 27.3 percent.
