Two best friends, who went from selling 10 burgers a week to serving Liverpool Football Club players, are preparing to opening a new venue in the city. Bilal Ali and Moeen Fiaz are the brains behind Walton venue, Woffle on County Road.

It first opened in July 2022, and back then, it struggled to break even. Fast-forward to today, and the team’s second second venue is beginning to take shape. This week has saw branded posters go up in the doors of the Knight Street site. The eatery, found just off Berry Street, has teased “it’s coming soon”.

When the ECHO last spoke with the team, the were determined to remain tight-lipped about what customers could expect, but promised it would “go off”. The news comes after the brand previously served Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, teammate Ryan Gravenberch, manager Arne Slot, as well as former players Trent Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz.

Co-founder Bilal Ali, who lives in Toxteth, explained to the ECHO how the “mad” moment came about. The 37-year-old businessman said: “We got a call from the Premier League afterparty at 10.30pm telling us the team wanted burgers. One of our mates, his son, is Trent’s best friend, so he rang us asking for food.

“When Trent and the club ask you for burgers, you make them burgers. We took about 60 burgers for them and a lot of sides. They loved them, and we stayed for a bit and enjoyed the party. It was one of the best experiences of my life. It wasn’t expected and very spontaneous.

“To have the players, who just won and are with their family and friends, ask for food, it felt like we accomplished something. These guys are the champions, the best team in the Premier League, it was a mad feeling. I can’t explain it.”

At the time, the Woffle team shared footage of the party on its Instagram, which came after the Reds drew with Crystal Palace in May. Besides famous faces, Bilal said they were just as committed to catering for the local community, and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

The eatery has a stellar Uber Eats rating and has been nominated for the food delivery platform's 2025 Restaurant of the Year award. The fast-food spot has also had several videos that have gone viral, with more than two million views and thousands of Instagram likes.

Bilal said: “We knew from the start that we wanted to be the best - we wanted to open and become the best burger joint in Liverpool.

"I’ve got food experience, and he’s got business experience, so we put pen to paper and here we are today. We are among the best, but we want to keep pushing it. We are on the right track to taking things to the next level.

“There used to be just three of us. Moeen covered the front, I was in the back, and then we would have an extra.

"Now there are around 16 of us. We did only 10, maybe 15 orders a week. We easily do a 100 plus on a weekday now.

“We have grown organically. We don’t want to move too fast - we want to be known locally. This is for Liverpool, and that’s how like opportunities to serve burgers to Liverpool Football Club came about."
